We always claim our rights to know the information against doctors, police officers and other people. In the meantime we fail to understand our responsibilities like helping a road accident victim by giving a first aid and making arrangements to take the victim immediately to the hospital. Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has already issued a circular about Need to build confidence in public for helping road accident victims.
Now the situations have improved. Ambulances and doctor facilities are available in some important highways.Inspite of this we have to go a long way. For example, the roads from Chidambaram, Sirkazhi to Karaikal and Thirumallaru where the famous Lord Saniswara situated are narrow and nfirst aid or ambulance facilities are yet to be organized. This is where govt. agencies have to encourage and train social workers and inculcate the social responsibilities among the public. Regarding corporate sector, both Larsen Toubro & ECC Ltd & Sri Sarbati Steels, Sedarapet, Pondicherry provide free ambulance round the clock to the rural public, when ever they are in need.
Social responsibilities mean to abide the law, instead of finding fault with others. We can see in almost all towns, where under age, particularly children below the age of 15 or 14 driving two wheelers. The parents also have a tailor made excuse that the children drive within residential areas only! It is a nightmare and unforgettable sad story for a family that after the accidents, particularly if a child becomes physically handicapped due to road accident. Even the elder person becomes the victim of a road accident the medical expenses, loss of salary or loss of job, the entire burden falls on the family, which we do not realize. But we never fail to blame the authorities after violating rules. Now the students of the high schools, higher sec. schools and colleges, are given training in traffic and first aid in where National Service Scheme is available . I suggest that all residential colonies in towns and metros, village mandals should come forward to create awareness about road safety among the public.

The ladies play an important role not only in our family but in our society also. Ladies also drive 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers now a day. They know love and affection more than a common man. Let me tell you real story: 2 years back in Pondicherry , a girl gone to college by cycle. Normally she returns by 6 pm. She did not return on that particular day and time went, 6.30 pm like that. This poor mother had gone to the main road to check whether her daughter went for shopping before coming to house. God! This poor mother had seen that her daughter was hit by a bus and died on the spot with her head crushed. How this mother would have felt?
“We claim our rights rather than understanding our responsibilities” is the saying forever on the tip of my tongue here in America. We Americans are obsessed with our rights to the neglect of so many important things. These words I will use wisely. Thank you.

Keep up your good work Pudhumai sir! We're very poor in time management and waste precious time and always set out to places late and hence rush to reach our work places / airport / station / function in time. Setting out in advance anticipating the delays enroute would sure save our own and others' lives too.
